When in Chennai, ISKCON Temple is a good place to stay if you are not very keen on looking for a deluxe kind of an option. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the guest house is a little distant from the city center but offers enough tranquillity in return giving respite from the monotonous chatter of the urban trappings and instead rewind in the peace of the environment.

Our room was not very high on modern amenities and came with the basic needs, there is no TV but they do provide an air conditioner. The guest house is situated in the premises of the Radha Damodhar temple - a beautiful place built in white marble to spend some quiet moments with your own Self and ponder on the timeless teachings of Lord Krishna.

DEITIES IN THE ISKCON TEMPLE, CHENNAI:
Few temples give you that larger than life feeling for real. ISKCON Temples have given that to me. The deities in almost all the ISKCON temples that I have been to are very real and life like, the devotion and the ecstasy during the aarti times is especially overwhelming. Do attend it if possible. Here, come along and have a darshan of the deities of the Chennai ISKCON:
Lord Shree Baldev, Subhadra and Jagannath. |
Lord Shree Radhe Krishna. |
Lord Krishna and Prabhu Nityananda. |
BHAGAVAD GEETA QUOTES AND PAINTINGS FROM THE ISKCON TEMPLE, CHENNAI:
My favourite part in the temple is the walls which are adorned with the mesmerising paintings of Lord Shree Krishna and all His adorable leelas and pastimes. Since we are celebrating His birthday, Krishna Janmashtami today, I thought of presenting those paintings with a few Quotes from The Bhagavad Geeta.
Life can seem tough or confusing sometimes and you don't really understand the way, but through the vast treasure chest of knowledge and guidance He left us in the form of the sacred Bhagavad Geeta, one realises that making a way through anything is well within our grasp and very much possible. Collecting these quotes today inspired me, I hope they will do the same for you too.
As the blazing fire reduces wood to ashes,
similarly, the fire of Self-knowledge reduces all Karma to ashes.
Reshape yourself through the power of your will;
never let yourself be degraded by self-will.
The will is the only friend of the Self,
and the will is the only enemy of the Self.
The devotees are always in My heart,
and I am always in the hearts of the devotees.
The devotee does not know anything beyond Me,
and I also cannot forget the devotee.
There is a very intimate relationship between Me and the pure devotees.
Pure devotees in full knowledge are never out of spiritual touch,
and therefore they are very much dear to Me.
It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly
than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection.
A devotee of the Lord is always fearless because of the protection given by the Lord.
He who has no attachments can really Love others, for his love is pure and divine.
The only way you can conquer me is through love and there I am gladly conquered.
The power of God is with you at all times;
through the activities of mind, senses, breathing, and emotions;
and is constantly doing all the work using you as a mere instrument.
He who has let go of hatred
who treats all beings with kindness
and compassion, who is always serene,
unmoved by pain or pleasure,
free of the "I" and "mine,"
self-controlled, firm and patient,
his whole mind focused on me ---
that is the man I love best.
JAI SHREE KRISHNA!

ReplyDeleteLove the paintings, Arti. I guess the accommodations shouldn't matter much since you only need to sleep, right? And a/c is a big plus.

ReplyDeleteLovely post Arti! ISKON temples all over the world are truly fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThe words of Krishna are so reassuring. Thanks dear Arti for sharing them with all His mesmerizing paintings. The love in His eyes is captivating and those pearls of words give life. I feel He is still telling Bhagwadgeeta to all of us, we just need to pay attention to Him and He is here in our lives. So blessed to have Darshna of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely pics !! One feels like one has actually visited the place :)
ReplyDeleteArti, I truly enjoyed viewing these Photos and paintings - so intricate in their color and portrayal. May I ask you a question? What are the marble feet signifying? (I hope I'm not being rude with this question.) This quote speaks to me: "It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection."
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind appreciation and for asking the question, Barb. I appreciate it so much; it gives me something to think about as well. Thank you for asking.
DeleteThose marble feet... they are called lotus feet by the devotees who worship Lord Krishna. I am not a learned and I am sure these must have a deeper meaning but I will try to put in my simple words, in a way that I understand them:
When we bow down, surrender and take shelter in the tender holy loving feet of Lord Krishna, the all pervading authority of the Universe, all our sorrows (material, spiritual and emotional) are absorbed in the sweetness contained in His lotus feet. So powerful is the fragrance of such a union, that our hearts no matter how fragile, like flowers, are drenched in His sweetness love and they bloom in love again.
Such a beautiful post, Arti.
ReplyDeleteReading the quotes again enlightened me. Beautiful captures and a wonderful narration. I felt like I have been to this place. Wish to visit the nearby ISKCON temple soon.
Hello, Arti, I’m back from summer break. Your accommodation room looks nice and cozy. I don’t need a TV set, but air-conditioner is a must to have a good night sleep when it is so hot. I am so attracted by all the colorful, beautiful paintings and feel enlightened by the words from the scripture.
